Cancer Social Prescribing

What we do

Practical, non-clinical support for anyone living with or after cancer, and for carers. Typical help includes benefits and employment advice, transport, fatigue-management courses, local support groups and help returning to activity. Local hospital teams also refer people awaiting or after diagnosis to social prescribing for extra support.

Who it is for

People at any stage of the cancer pathway, plus families and carers. Nationally, Macmillan provides information and a free support line on 0808 808 00 00.

How to access

Information:

Ask your GP practice or your hospital clinical nurse specialist to refer you to the PCN cancer social prescribing worker. If you need immediate information or a listening ear, call Macmillan’s Support Line.

What to expect

Why this team is great

Information:

People tell us it makes the non-medical side of cancer easier to manage and reduces the number of times they need to see a GP for practical issues.
